INVERMAY SCHOOL NEWS: May and June jam-packed with activities

On May 16, Outdoor Ed. 30 students went on their canoeing trip to Assiniboine River and learned a lot.

INVERMAY - Even though May did not have any long breaks, it ended up going by in a breeze.

Track-and-field is always a big part of Invermay School in May and these students took the time to practice and persevere through any conditions. For their Pre-District track on May 14 the weather was not the greatest but these athletes found ways to work harder and persevere through the weather. We had 29 athletes that advanced to the District Track meet on May 27-28 in Yorkton. Great job everyone!

The Grade 9/10s held a raffle for their year-end trip. They would like to thank anybody who purchased tickets. The winner was Caleb, congratulations!

On May 16, Outdoor Ed. 30 went on their canoeing trip to Assiniboine River and learned many new things. They spent their time with Dave Modeland and had had such a fun experience! They even spotted a newborn Moose!

One of the other trips that the Outdoor Ed. 30 class took was to Hudson Bay Forest Protection Base. Students learned the difference between a structural fire and a wildfire, as well as the three major ingredients that creates a wildfire. Students also had the pleasure of witnessing a demonstration of an attack crew getting dropped off and picked up by a helicopter.

Invermay was “on fire” during their District Track meet. The athletes had to battle the sun and heat, and made sure they did their personal best. We had athletes that won medals, ribbons, and a ticket to provincials. Way to go Eagles!

May 31 was a once in a lifetime experience for the Grade 9-12 students. They saw the Roughriders game at the Mosaic stadium. Students got an exclusive Endzone Experience, where they met some of the Rider players, scored autographs, and grabbed some awesome photos right on the field! They also got a super unique experience by being the flag bearers for O’Canada.

June 2 was the day that the Grade 4’s and 5’s found out if they were competing at the showcase track meet on June 11.

June 11 was a very successful track meet for the Grade 4s and 5s. They learned a lot and Invermay School is very proud of them!

Our Grade K-5 have also been working hard on their track-and-field and had their meet on June 5. They had such a blast as they got to enjoy the Canora Aquatic Park in the afternoon! Some of our medal winners were Juan Miguel, Callie Bosovich, and Perseus Mesias. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Our provincial athletes did an outstanding job at representing East Central and Invermay School at Provincial June 6-7 in Moose Jaw. Congratulations everyone!

On June 12, the SRC held their COLOUR fun day. The students earned the fun day by selling over $10,000 in Mom’s Pantry in the fall. The students surpassed that goal to qualify for their fun day. The SRC planned a very well-packed day that had many different activities and provided everyone with lunch!

In the morning the students got a coloured stripe on their cheek. This stripe was going to be used for the last station of the day in the afternoon. The students had bandanas to personalize and make their own. All of the bandanas were a very crucial part of the afternoon's activities. Once the students were done personalizing their bandanas, they got to colour the school in chalk. The sidewalk looked awesome in all of the colour!

The SRC had a challenge and this time it was a cold one. Another incentive from Mom’s Pantry was that the SRC had to get dunked in a nice cold ice bucket.

The SRC then served their lunch that included hot dogs, watermelon, juice box, chips, and a Freezie. It was the right way to get hyped for our afternoon.

The afternoon was fun filled with multiple different stations. The SRC decided to put a twist on different stations with coloured powder! They had five stations and had colour thrown at them at during times.

The different stations included colour, freeze, dance where the students had to find a colour once the music stopped and if the colour was pulled out then the students on that colour would get powdered.

The next station was an obstacle course. The students got powdered throughout the course while jumping through tires, going underneath string, walking on a plank, running a soccer ball around cones, and trying to get the ball in the pail of water.

The next station was beach volleyball and the students got powdered while they were trying to play volleyball. The tug- of- war was a big hit with some challenges. The students got powdered at the beginning of the war and throughout the game. The last station was “capture the treasure” played by the whole school. It was a really fun experience while getting powdered throughout the game.

The SRC planned a slip n slide to finish off their fun day! It was a great day and we could not be more thankful for all the volunteers who came out and helped throw powder.
