Local athletes recognized for achievements during the season

Canora Junior Elementary and Canora Composite School archers “delivered stellar performances” at the Provincial Archery Championships in Shaunavon, bringing home multiple team titles and individual medals.

CANORA - With the school year coming to an end, local athletes have been recognized for their achievements in area and provincial competitions.

Coached by Thomas Lowes, Jennifer Prychak and Lisa Fast, Canora Junior Elementary and Canora Composite School archers “delivered stellar performances” at the Provincial Archery Championships on April 12 in Shaunavon, bringing home multiple team titles and individual medals.

The Elementary Team and High School Team both earned the title of Provincial Champions, while the Middle School Team secured a Silver Medal finish.

Individual standouts included:

• Connor Pozniak, Provincial Champion, Elementary Boys

• Kolton Unick, Provincial Champion, Middle School Boys

• Natalie Kosar, Provincial Champion, High School Girls

• Jacob Prychak, Bronze Medalist, Elementary Boys

• Levi Lowes, Bronze Medalist, Middle School Boys

Additional top finishes were achieved by Ashton Lamb (fourth, Elementary Girls), Lukas Woicichowski (seventh, Elementary Boys), Owen Jones (eighth, Elementary Boys), Cora Tomcala (seventh, Middle School Girls), Mickayla Maygard (fifth, High School Girls), Maddy Dutchak (10th, High School Girls), Jacob Lowes (seventh, High School Boys), and Andrew Sliva (ninth, High School Boys).

CJES archers on the Elementary Team, composed of Grade 4 and 5 students, showed their skill with Jacob Prychak leading the way with a score of 234, followed by Willow Smith (144), Riley Drobot (128), Aliannah Herriges (108), Prairie Crane (88), and Lena Scheltgen (70).

“Thanks to the generous support of River Ridge Wildlife Federation, who covered transportation costs,” said the coaches. “The team traveled by charter bus from Canora to Shaunavon for the competition. Congratulations to all CJE & CCS archers for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievements!

Cross-country

CJES athletes competed in three cross-country meets in the last half of September and early October, with numerous top-30 finishes.

The Yorkton Deere Park Golf Course meet was held on Sept. 16, with 15 CJES competitors in the 2km distance.

The Saltcoats Autumn Summit was held on Sept. 27 at the Saltcoats Regional Park. Fourteen CJES athletes competed at the 2km distance.

The final official cross-country meet of the season was at Yorkton’s Jaycee Beach on Oct. 2. Once again, CJES athletes competed in the 2km distance.
