SIRT investigates in-custody death of 61-year-old male

On June 5, the 61-year-old male was located unresponsive by a cell guard at the Kamsack detachment.

The male was wanted by Saskatchewan RCMP on multiple outstanding warrants.

KAMSACK – On June 3, Kamsack RCMP arrested a 61-year-old male in Kamsack, SK. The male was wanted by Saskatchewan RCMP on multiple outstanding warrants. He made a first appearance in court on June 4. The male was remanded into RCMP custody pending a court appearance scheduled for June 6. 

On June 5, the 61-year-old male was located unresponsive by a cell guard at the Kamsack detachment. EMS was called and the male was declared deceased. 

The male’s family has been notified of his death.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), who will investigate the Saskatchewan RCMP’s interaction with the deceased and the circumstances of his death.  Any inquiries regarding this matter can be directed to SIRT.
