A basketball team with a real different twist came to play at the Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex (CGCEC) on March 2.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Harlem Crowns are a basketball team that provides great entertainment as well as bringing a message of encouragement and the importance of education to the students of the schools they play at, according to their website.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Jonas Cote, principal of the CGCEC, said the Harlem Crowns were booked to come entertain at Cote school through a program called Brighter Futures, and this is a second visit for the team.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淪ome of the players are from California and they delivered a very important message to our students before the game started,鈥� said Cote. 鈥淭hey spoke to our students about their own life experiences.
鈥淭hey spoke about the importance of getting an education, about how bullying needs to be addressed and how drugs and alcohol can have a severe negative impact on a young person鈥檚 future.鈥�
The team鈥檚 website describes them as 鈥渃omedy in motion. It is true they go through set gags and regular comic routines, but every game is different.鈥�
Cote was one of the players on the home team.
鈥淚鈥檓 a little bit out of shape but I managed to get the ball a few times during the game,鈥� he said.
Josh Masters, the one Canadian on the team, is from Vancouver.
鈥淩ight now we are touring Canada, especially Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia,鈥� Masters said. 鈥淥ut on the court, the players have their own entertaining, signature moves.鈥�
