聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淔ewer than 15 per cent of Saskatchewan kids are getting the recommended 60 to 90 minutes of heart-pumping activity a day,鈥 said Kev Sumner, Kamsack recreation director. 鈥淚n Kamsack we would like to see the amount of time kids get to play outside increase.
鈥淲e all have a role to play in the solution by providing them with fantastic sports and recreational facilities and programs,鈥 Sumner said. 鈥淲e are very lucky in Kamsack because we have a great indoor rink, curling ice, ball diamonds, soccer fields and a walking trail.鈥
Saskatchewan in Motion, Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation District and the Kamsack in Motionteam are working together to make sure physical activity is an easy option for everyone, he said. 鈥淛oin us on November 28 to explore ways to create a healthy, active community and develop realistic strategies to get more kids, more active, more often.鈥
A meeting is being held at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute at 3:30 p.m. on November 28, Sumner said. Further similar meetings are scheduled on December 7 at noon for students; at 3:45 p.m. at the seniors鈥 centre for seniors, and for other members of the community at the seniors鈥 centre at 6:30 p.m.
It is expected that following the meetings a community action profile will be developed which will become a valuable tool for such efforts as applying for funds.
鈥淭hey say it takes a village to raise a child,鈥 Sumner said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 certainly true when it comes to getting kids moving more.鈥
This conversation is open to all interested individuals and organizations, he said, urging persons interested in participating to contact him at the recreation office.
