OUTLOOK — Residents of this west central part of the province are being warned of a scam involving a paving & construction company that is believed to be traveling around the local area.

The Rosetown and Kyle RCMP released a statement on May 7 warning people of an alleged fraudulent company that has been traveling around the regional area and scamming people out of money.

The matter involves a group called “Construction Redwood” or “Redwood Paving” roaming around in a grey half-ton truck, with Alberta license plates being seen by several people.

Sgt. Mark Langager of the Outlook RCMP described the matter to this reporter.

The incidents reported include the foreman of the group offering to do paving work and asking for payment up front. He gets upset when someone declines to have the work done, or declines to pay. From the jobs that this crew have done, the asphalt isn't real, but merely oiled gravel. They are believed to be driving rental worksite trucks out of Ontario with a flatdeck trailer carrying a skid steer and a semi gravel hauler.

Residents are being warned that this company is not legitimate, and police have received information that they will attempt to scam or defraud people. They are referencing that they have performed a number of work duties for local companies and rural municipalities, but this is not true.

As a reminder to the public, they're being told to only accept work from reputable or known companies, and never pay for the work up front.
