AMPO marks 51 years of outdoor education for CTTCS

AMPO offers students an outdoor education experience focused on teamwork, ecological studies and outdoor living skills.

YORKTON — The Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division celebrated the 51st anniversary of its long-running AMPO (Alphonsus, Mary’s, and Paul’s Outdoors) program from June 2 to 6.

Launched in the spring of 1972 at St. Michael’s Camp on Madge Lake, AMPO has become a tradition in the division, originally serving Grade 6 students from St. Mary’s, St. Alphonsus and St. Paul’s schools. The program transitioned to Grade 7 in 1989 and expanded in later years to include St. Michael’s School (1999), St. Theodore (2004) and Melville’s St. Henry’s Sr. School (2015).

Held annually in late May or early June, AMPO offers students an outdoor education experience focused on teamwork, ecological studies and outdoor living skills.

The program is made possible by support from the school board and remains a unique opportunity for students to build cooperation, engage in hands-on learning and create lasting memories outside the classroom.
