Superstore looks to set world record with cheese-cracking event

At precisely 10 a.m., local time, 450 stores across Canada participated in the effort.

YORKTON — Employees at the Real Canadian Superstore in Yorkton helped set a world record the morning of June 14 by taking part in a nationwide cheese-cracking event to set a Guinness World Record.

At precisely 10 a.m. local time, five employees successfully cracked open an 88-pound wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, joining over 450 stores across Canada in the effort.

"It's a nationwide event. All Superstores across the board participated at the same time," said store manager Garth Martin.

"It's a good team-building event," said Martin, adding he was proud of the employees who managed to break open five wheels in under five minutes, clocking in at four minutes and 45 seconds.

Martin noted this might be the last time the world sees a cheese-cracking event of this scale.

"It's going to be retired—from what I hear—after today," said Martin.
