SIRT investigating officer-involved shooting on Flying Dust FN

On June 29, Meadow Lake RCMP responded to a report of an adult male acting aggressively at a residence on Flying Dust First Nation.

FLYING DUST FIRST NATION - The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the circumstances of an RCMP officer-involved shooting resulting in injuries to an adult male.

On June 29 at around 5:30 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP responded to a report of an adult male acting aggressively at a residence on Flying Dust First Nation.

Two RCMP officers responded and encountered the adult male with a weapon. An RCMP officer discharged their firearm, injuring the man.

Officers provided initial medical assistance and the man was subsequently transported to hospital with injuries described as serious. Police do not have an update on his condition. The man’s family has been notified.

RCMP officers were not physically injured during this incident.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). SIRT will investigate the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP Forensic Identification Services. Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section is investigating the circumstances of the initial call for service.
