LA RONGE — The Lac La Ronge region remains under a mandatory evacuation order as dangerous wildfire conditions persist.
In a statement from the Village of Air Ronge, Town of La Ronge and Lac La Ronge Indian Band Emergency Operations Centre said only registered emergency and essential personnel are permitted entry, with local authorities emphasizing that all available resources must remain focused on coordinated firefighting efforts.
The EMO press release highlighted that critical services — including water pressure and volume, security, public safety, food, medical aid and accommodations — are operating at capacity to support frontline crews. Officials warn that anyone interfering with these resources or ignoring evacuation directives may be detained and property may be seized if necessary.
“To preserve water supply for firefighting, private sprinkler systems are now being shut off by personnel. Despite the ongoing challenges, response teams continue their determined efforts to protect the region,” the EMO said in a statement.
Lyle Hannan, EMO director, said, “A special thank you to the communities of Buckland, Prince Albert, Wakaw, Humboldt, Melfort, St. Louis and Yorkton, and their firefighting crews who continue to be an essential resource. We will continue to battle here, but know our thoughts remain with our people who have been evacuated and impacted by the fires.
“Thank you to those individuals, organizations and communities who are taking care of our residents and doing anything you can to assist them through these trying times.”
