Pumpkin carving for kids of all ages, from 2 to 72, was held at Paynton library. The carvers have a great time every year and get together for a harvest-style supper afterwards.
The library is also hosting another seasonal event this year - the annual Christmas craft sale will be held in Paynton gym Nov. 30, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., central time. Lunch will be served by the library ladies to raise money for the worthy cause.
Paynton artists Mariann Taubensee and Ellery Russell have been hard at work getting ready for the fall shows that seem to be in abundance this time of year. Besides craft sales and art markets, each of the artists has a show at a gallery as well.
Mariann Taubensee has set up an installation at SCYAP Gallery in Saskatoon until Nov. 9. In the StarPhoenix interview on her Lost and Tossed show, Mariann reveals the reasons behind her art and what makes her tick. An artist reception will be held Nov 1 at 7 p.m. CST if you find yourself curious to see what she has created.
Ellery Russell is showing her art on the other side of the province, at Lloydminster's The Root Community Emporium. Not only a great place for a lovely meal, The Root hosts several artists in the cafe area where there is also live music regularly. Ellery's work is in the studio where there is room for the sculpture and large pieces to be viewed properly. This studio is also used for various activities like yoga and dance classes. An artist's reception will be held Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. MST. Come for the art and stay for the food!
Paynton Volunteer Fire Department is hosting STARS air ambulance landing zone training Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. MST. Meet at Paynton Pioneer Centre on Main and 3rd Avenue. The session is free to first responders, police, fire and EMTs in the area. Snacks and refreshments will be provided to hold you over if you are missing supper. This is a great opportunity for those who wish to join a volunteer fire department to sit in and see what they could be doing in the future. Go check it out and see if volunteering is for you!
