SIGA board elects Chief Tammy as new Chair

SIGA operates seven casinos in Saskatchewan.

SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority recently elected Chief Tammy Cook-Searson as its new Chair of the Board of Directors. She joined SIGA’s Board of Directors in 2018, serving on its Audit and Finance Committee.

Cook-Searson is in her 20th year as Chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. She will help oversee the seven land-based casinos and the online gaming platform PlayNow.com in Saskatchewan for the non-profit gaming operator.

She holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a graduate diploma in management from Athabasca University, as well as honorary degrees from the University of Regina, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Cook-Searson replaces outgoing Board Chair and former Chief of the Muskowekwan First Nation, Reginald Bellerose, who has held the position since February 4, 2015.

The Dakota Dunes Resort & Casino, the Northern Lights Casino, Gold Eagle Casino, Living Sky Casino, Painted Hand Casino, Bear Claw Casino, and Gold Horse Casino are the seven casinos operated by SIGA.

Dakota Dunes is on Whitecap Dakota First Nation near Saskatoon, Northern Lights is on Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation in Prince Albert, Gold Eagle is on the Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Mean First Nation in North Battleford, Living Sky is on the Nekaneet First Nation in Swift Current, Painted Hand is on the Kahkewistahaw First Nation in Yorkton, Bear Claw is on the White Bear First Nations near Carlyle, and Gold Horse is on Little Pine Cree Nation in Lloydminster.
