A number of former Battlefords Midget Stars and local hockey players have made their way across the border and joined teams in the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League.
Those players have helped their teams have successful first halves to the season and will be back in action Jan. 4.
The Lloydminster Bandits sit second in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Division and that is thanks in large part to goaltender Blair Mahon. Mahon graduated from the Midget Stars and tried out for the North Stars before finding a home with the Bandits this season. The goaltender has 10 wins and six losses in 17 appearances this season. He holds a .879 save percentage, as the Bandits are 13-8-0-2 this season.
Mahon also has two other Battlefords residents as teammates. Dakota Tootoosis is fourth on the Bandits in points with 13 goals and 10 assists in 20 games. Landon Lightfoot is also listed on the roster and has nine games played with one goal, one assist and 42 penalty minutes.
Playing in the North Division are the Cold Lake Ice. The Ice are first in the league and former Midget Stars Jesse Gerbig and Reece Fenrich have had impressive seasons. Gerbig has 12 goals and six assists in 20 games while Fenrich, a defenceman, has six goals and eight assists in his first season in junior hockey.
