North Battleford's Nate Jurgens has made it to the final six of the Gillette Drafted contest and has a chance to become a sportscaster on theScore.

Students, staff and parents at John Paul II are surely familiar with the name Nate Jurgens. Soon the high school shop teacher could be recognized across Canada as a sportscaster for theScore.

Jurgens entered into the Gillette Drafted contest months ago with hopes of becoming the next great Canadian sportscaster.

The first process of the contest had Jurgens up against 23 others where online votes sent two through to the finals. Four others were selected by judges after a series of sports trivia quizzes, a trip to Toronto for boot camp and their on screen presence.

Jurgens received the second most votes online and automatically moved into the final six after months of voting. Now, he again needs the help of his supporters and voters.

The winner will be chosen based on their on-air presence, their sports IQ and the online voting. There are two options to vote - the first is at drafted.ca. Click on Jurgens' name and click vote. The other way is by using Twitter. Include #Drafted and #Nate in a tweet up to five times per day to send the local teacher your support.

Jurgens sits second in voting right now close behind Andrew Damelin of Toronto, who had 2,078 votes as of Monday morning. Jurgens had 1,917.

The other finalists are Chris Ross of Vancouver, Matt Drappel and Ray Lontoc from Toronto and Nasr Ahmed of Brampton, Ont.

The finalists will go head-to-head for eight episodes beginning Sept. 24 on theScore with hopes of earning the one-year contract.

"We congratulate each of the six finalists, but the real hard work for them begins now," said Benjie Levy, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Score Media. "It'll be a challenging time, but also a hugely rewarding one and we know we've got six very talented people who'll make for a fascinating and entertaining season of Gillette Drafted."

Jurgens had completed eight of the 10 trivia quizzes including a ticker test, basketball, MMA, football, WWE, soccer, baseball and hockey. The final two tests are a second ticker test and the prep test.
