The Battleford Midget B Sharks throttled the Melfort Mustangs in NSFHL action Saturday night. The Sharks took full advantage of a Mustangs team able to dress only eight skaters. Lexxa Potratz and Annaka Pooyak both registered five points on the evening.
Matheson Colliar opened the scoring 11 seconds into the first period from Pooyak and Potratz. The three connected for the second goal of the period when Potratz beat Melfort goaltender Vonda Head with less than eight minutes left in the period.
Melfort played a more competitive second period, but the short bench started to catch up to the Mustangs. Potratz beat Head for her second goal of the game midway through the period from Casey Harper and Pooyak.
The Sharks overwhelmed the tired Melfort team in the final period, scoring five more times. Potratz completed her hat trick three minutes into the period, with Kelby Russell and Pooyak registering assists. Colliar scored her second of the night from Naomi Swiftwolfe. Russell, Swiftwolfe and Nicole Paskemin, rounded out the scoring for the Sharks.
Head played well in net for Melfort despite giving up eight goals. The Mustangs netminder turned away numerous chances to keep the score from becoming even more lopsided.
Sharks' goaltender Dawria Dickson had a quiet evening, but made the saves when called upon.
Battleford continues their season Saturday at home against the Leoville Huskies. Game time is 11:15 a.m. at the Battleford Arena.
