The well-oiled machine that is the Muenster Red Sox just keeps rolling on after another successful weekend of baseball.
An afternoon doubleheader on July 7 in Muenster saw the Red Sox sweep the Lumsden Cubs to improve their record to 10-2-1 in the Midget AA division of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League (SPBL). The Red Sox currently sit in third place, behind only the Weyburn Qmax Athletics and the Northeast Red Sox.
In the first game against Lumsden, Muenster jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Cubs answered with three runs of their own. In the seventh inning the Red Sox broke the game wide open by scoring seven runs and finishing with an 11-3 win. Devin Hinz got the win from the mound for Muenster.
The second game saw Muenster's offence dominate again, scoring early and often in a 15-6 victory. Taylor Rueve was the winning pitcher and Tanner Syroteuk was the offensive star with two home runs.
After an early season schedule often interrupted by weather, the Red Sox are starting to hit their stride and look ready to defend their championship. The team's next game will be a home date with the Northeast Red Sox today at 6:30 p.m. With the Northeast Red Sox only a point up on them in the standings, this will be an important game for Muenster.
