The Battlefords North Stars signed two 15-year-old prospects to their 50-man protected list this week.
Austin Shumanski from Hafford and Blake Oborowsky from Denholm recently turned 15 years of age and became eligible for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League listing process.
Shumanski, a 6-4, 185 pound defenseman, was a 10th round draft pick by the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. He is described as a hard-to-play-against, puck-moving defenseman with strong leadership qualities. He played last season for the North Division-leading Sask Valley Vipers of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League, contributing nine points in 31 games played. Austin committed to play for the Yorkton Harvest of the SMAAAHL for the 2014-15 season.
Oborowksy, a 5-10, 180 pound power forward, played with the Bantam AA Barons for the last two seasons. In his final bantam season, Oborowsky lead his team in scoring, registering 21 goals and 22 assists in 31 games played. He is described as a hard-hitting, physical forward who competes aggressively in the corners and in the front of the opposition's net. Oborowsky was recently the youngest player in the North Stars prospects camp.
Both players will be affiliated with the North Stars during the 2014-15 season.
