Kirsty Kindrachuk, another in an ever growing line of Waldheim, Saskatchewan products, will be heading to Briercrest College to play on the women鈥檚 volleyball team this year.
鈥淚 graduated from Waldheim High School, having also attended Hafford Central School and the softball academy at Tommy Douglas Collegiate in High school,鈥� Kindrachuk said. 鈥淚 have received high academic honors in all of high school. In Grade 9 I received the best female athlete in Hafford Central School and MVP of the volleyball team at Tommy Douglas Collegiate in my senior year. My high school volleyball team was the Tommy Douglas Collegiate Tigers. Other high school sports that I played were badminton, track and field, and softball.鈥�
Briercrest head coach Nolan Weinmaster is excited to see what Kirsty will bring to the team this season.
鈥淜indrachuk has been a member of our Briercrest 18鈥檚 volleyball club this past year and it has been a pleasure to watch her grow and improve throughout the season, while helping the team have a lot of success,鈥� Weinmaster said. 鈥淪he has great ball control and will really contribute to our team with her passing and defense. She is a smart attacker as well and brings a great serve to our lineup. I am really excited about working with Kirsty. I know her fun personality will be such a great addition to our team and she comes from a great family where she has grown up with a lot of strong character instilled in her. She is a great fit for our culture here with Briercrest Women鈥檚 Volleyball.鈥�
Like many volleyball players, Kindrachuk joined volleyball initially due to her physical stature.
鈥淚 started playing in Grade 6 as a middle because of my height but then soon realized I wasn鈥檛 as tall as I had initially thought, so I switched to left side hitter for the remainder of my club years,鈥� she explained. 鈥滻 started playing club volleyball in Grade 8 with North Battleford Crush, for three years (15U for two years and 16U for one). I captained the team to achieve silver and bronze provincial medals in 15U and 16U, respectively. I played for Team Saskatchewan in the summers of 2013 and 2014. I then went to play for Waldheim United/Briercrest United for years 17U and 18U where we won a gold and bronze provincial medal, respectively. In 18U, we finished top 13 in the National Championship Tournament. The highlight of my career so far was getting to know such a fun and faithful group of girls with such an inseparable bond. I enjoyed having such caring coaches as well, throughout all the teams I鈥檝e played on, they鈥檝e all taught me many important life lessons so I鈥檓 also looking forward to have another level of coaching that college will offer.鈥�
Kindrachuk has been very involved in her community throughout her high school years.
鈥淢y hobbies and interests include drinking coffee, dancing, art and playing dice games,鈥� she said. 鈥淚鈥檓 planning to study Psychology at Briercrest and I鈥檓 looking forward to hopefully leave a lasting impression on the people I meet, but ultimately, looking forward to the journey of following out God鈥檚 will. In 2012, I had an opportunity to go to a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) conference with 2 other students from my school. I stayed with a wonderful African-Canadian family that I learned more about throughout the week and attended the conference with her as well. It turns out we were both Christian and our families both prayed together before meals and in the evenings. I learned a lot of things there that have stuck with me and I鈥檓 thankful I got to meet them.鈥�
