This weekend, the Battlefords ORCAS Swim Club hosted their first Winter Sprint Classic swim meet at the Co-op Aquatic Centre. It was the club's first official swim meet in the new pool, and first official meet in the Battlefords in several years.

The Battlefords Midget Stars had a chance to claim a playoff spot with a win Wednesday on home ice against the Saskatoon Contacts, but they failed to do that and remain in seventh in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.

With just a handful of tournaments remaining in the basketball season before the playoffs start, the North Battleford Comprehensive High School basketball teams continued to beat down their opponents.

It was a nice mild February day for the New Horizons weekly draw. The three games played in the morning saw one that was a most unusual, played between Dick Horell and Ed Kjargaard.

The Twin Rivers Curling Club was a beehive of activity on Saturday. Fifteen teams competed in the third annual Tim Hortons Youth Bonspiel. The participants ranged from seven to 14 year old.

There is a fine line in sports between a successful weekend and a disappointing one. The Battlefords North Stars went 0-1-0-2 in their three-games in four-nights stretch of the schedule beginning Friday in Flin Flon.

It took awhile for the Battlefords Midget Stars to pulled away from the Beardy's Blackhawks in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action when the teams played Thursday at the Civic Centre.
