In the weather we are in a pattern of hot during the day and then some thunder boomers and a light rain shower at night. At least we didn't get what other places have had, plow winds and hail. If you didn't have to be outside working in the sun, it was very pleasant weather overall. The crops are coming hard and fast. August will soon be here and the swathers have to be ready.
I see lots of guys spraying with fungicide. I am not one of them.
On the home front I have made a deal for a double disc. So far, I am not impressed. I had $500 in the disc before I even got it home, one new tire and all the wheel bearings for one of the wheels. Now it is in front of the shop and we see a gang bearing gone. Well, there is no sense replacing just that one. There are three bearings on the gang, so once you get it off, common sense dictates that you change all three. The bearings, C11, are not in stock and had to be ordered. The bearings are $52 a piece. That is another $150. Now we see a disc on the loose on the front gang on one side and another gang with the spacer disintegrating. More fixing! I could get to hate discs, again! I had a Kello-built with oil bath bearings. I liked that disc but Ritchie Brothers fire saled it on my auction. They will never be forgiven for that day as long as I live!
We have had a series of grandchildren coming to visit. Our grandson Santi was playing on the deck behind the house and a wasp stung him. The wasp crawled up his shirt sleeve and there was a lot of terrorized screaming. Grandma Bev got the wasp out and killed it. She put vinegar on the sting but it wasn't very effective so she quickly looked on the Internet and saw that toothpaste was good. Toothpaste took the stinging away. Now Beverly does not tolerate anything hurting her pets or grandchildren. It was determined the wasps had built a nest in an old unused barbecue. War was declared! On one side Beverly and a can of Raid and the other the wasps with their stingers at the ready. The war was short, the wasps were annihilated. One got Bev on the arm before he was killed, more toothpaste. I could have told them wasps, don't mess with her. She also knows how to use a gun. I try to be nice to her.
The only politics happening is Stephen Harper shuffled his cabinet. Eight new people got cabinet posts. Gerry Ritz kept the minister of agriculture portfolio. There was lots of speculation that he would be moved from wishful thinkers, I think. No matter what you think of Stephen Harper's politics, he is not going to replace the most effective minister of agriculture we have had for years. Gerry Ritz has done everything that he set out to do whether you agree with him or not. I think he is doing a good job, although I don't always agree with him. He has several trade deals pending, so he can now stay and see them through.
In Great Britain and around the world the old biddies and a whole lot of other people are just a twitter about the new baby coming to Kate and William. The presumed due date has come and gone and no baby yet. So now they are on to when is it coming, is it a boy or girl? Babies come when they are ready and as far as a boy or girl, I defer to the expert in the family. I am sure Kate and William's wish is the same as all expecting parents, whether it is boy or girl will be welcomed and that it be healthy.
Congratulations to Bob and Ada Polinsky who this past week celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Wow, that's a long time to be married. Have many more!
Joke of the week: A very upset man rushed into a garden center and wanted to buy geraniums. The clerk said, "We have no geraniums but we have pansies on sale." "No," said the man "It has to be geraniums." After a brief pause the man said "That was what my wife told me to water when she went on holidays and I forgot. She is coming home tomorrow."
