We've all seen it. One of the most predominant aspects of our newly denuded landscape is garbage. It's everywhere. While it would be easy to just melt into a rant about the incredible ignorance of those who jettison their trash, it will be more productive to focus on the positive.
The Battlefords United Way and Communities in Bloom are hosting their annual spring clean-up day this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out to the north location Tim Hortons at noon to register. There assignments for clean-up locations will be made (let's be careful out there) and participants will head out into the community to trash the trash.
Everyone is invited back to Tim's at 4 p.m. for a friendly social mingle including snacks, refreshments and prize draws.
If you're not into the group clean-up scene, how about just heading out into your neighbourhood at some point Saturday and filling a trash bag or two? The more we pitch in, the better our community will look by the end of the day.
Anyone needing more information about the clean-up day can contact Karen Martel at the Battlefords United Way office at 306-445-1717.
And while we're thinking cleanup, the word from the Battleford firefighters at Monday's council meeting is fire is never a good way to clean up. While we've experienced record snowfall and a rapid runoff, vegetation is still too dry to make fire a safe alternative.
