PRINCE ALBERT – A group of protesters was issued tickets after blocking a bridge on Highway 2 north of Prince Albert on Canada Day.
Shortly after 3 p.m. on July 1, Prince Albert RCMP received six separate 911 calls reporting the group on the highway, about 20 kilometres north of the city. Several callers also said the protestors had hit their vehicles as they drove past.
Officers from the Prince Albert RCMP detachment and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan responded and found seven adults – two women and five men – walking on the bridge.
RCMP said officers attempted to get the group to leave the roadway, but they refused. All seven were issued tickets under the Traffic Safety Act for unlawfully walking on a highway.
One woman refused to leave the road and was arrested for safety reasons. She remains in police custody. No charges have been laid and no other arrests were made.
Highway 2 has since been cleared. The investigation is ongoing, and RCMP said no further information is available at this time.
