SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan RCMP says it is aware of a post circulating on social media that includes an AI-generated image of a person based on a police sketch of a suspect.
According to an RCMP news release, the sketch was released as part of an ongoing investigation relating to the report of a sexual offence at a business south of Saskatoon that occurred on May 9.
"We are advising the public that this image does not match the descriptors that were provided to police by witnesses and are requesting the public to not share it any further as it’s inaccurate," the news release stated.
The sketch, created by an RCMP Forensic Artist and released May 16, resembles the person the RCMP says it is seeking.
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section continues to investigate.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who recognizes the sketch of the suspect, is asked to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
