Luseland Travel Club lands back home after Europe trip

Students of Luseland District School spent Easter break travelling through Scotland and Ireland.

LUSELAND — Luseland’s travel club has returned home from Ireland and Scotland. Officially arriving in Saskatoon at 12:30 a.m. April 28, after the long hours of travel, which were both exciting and exhausting for the group of kids and the parents who went.

One student said her favourite part of the trip was the scenery, explaining it was very green with lots of trees and some areas had a lot of mountains, very different from the typical Saskatchewan views, especially at this time of year. The weather in both countries was quite cloudy and rainy throughout the trip, however, the time spent in Scotland saw plenty of sun. Her least favourite part was all the flights they had taken, of which many kids shared this opinion.

For a couple of the kids who went, their favourite parts were the castles they got to both see and tour. Many kids enjoyed learning about the rich histories of both countries, whether from the castle tours or from a couple of the statues they had seen on tours. Another student explained her favourite part was getting to walk through the castle, but she also enjoyed the late-night walks she took at the end of the day.

One student noted along with the history she learned, she discovered the coffee there was nothing like the coffee at home, stating she found it incredibly unfortunate due to the lack of sleep she had been experiencing.

Another student commented on the food the group got to eat while they were there. One of the things she most looked forward to was trying some European cuisine, and it did not disappoint, she noted. She found the vast majority of it to taste incredible.

Many of them learned about the exchange rate between the Canadian dollar to the Euro, finding many items are more expensive while shopping. One traveller said she didn’t find shopping to be as much fun in Europe as it is back home, as she only came home with a couple of keychains and a magnet or two, though some others came home with larger souvenirs such as hoodies.

The trip gave many good memories for the students participating, getting to see a country many of them felt they otherwise might not have gotten the chance to see. However, some kids reported that the excursion felt long and exhausting, but most described it as an overall breathtaking trip to have gone on.
