KERROBERT — SaskEnergy will carry out controlled natural gas flaring at a block valve site near the Ermine Power Station, about nine kilometres southeast of Kerrobert, in the RM of Oakdale.
The flaring is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, June 25 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., though times may vary depending on operational needs.
Motorists and residents in the area may observe a 40-foot flame from a flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.
The procedure is required to perform maintenance on the area’s natural gas line system. A portion of the gas line will be isolated, and natural gas will be removed through a controlled burn—an industry-standard method known as flaring.
SaskEnergy said this method reduces the carbon footprint of vented natural gas by approximately 85 per cent.
The area will be monitored throughout the operation to ensure public safety, and residential natural gas service will not be interrupted.
The Kerrobert Fire Department and the RM of Oakdale have been notified in advance.
