Lawrence Seymour Barber
June 8, 1942 - May 19, 2025
It’s with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Seymour Barber, of Spruce Grove, Alberta, who left us suddenly on May 19, 2025, at the age of 82.
Lawrence was predeceased by his parents Cyril and Theodora Barber, and his brothers Robert and Paul Barber. Lawrence will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years Janet, daughters Rebecca and Lucy, granddaughters Tianna (Andrew) and Alexandra, son-in-law David, as well as many family and friends.
Lawrence was born and raised in Buxton, Derbyshire, England. He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering and worked in a variety of areas, including the design and development of buildings, roads, dams, and bridges in England, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Lawrence and Janet spent time in both England and Canada before settling down in Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1977. Lawrence retired in 2002, and later, in 2019, moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta to be closer to family.
In earlier years, Lawrence stayed active with badminton and cycling. He could regularly be seen taking long bike rides around Weyburn and along Highway 39 out to Yellow Grass. He was an avid traveller spending time in many different sunny destinations with Janet and family. Lawrence had many passions, including pottery, gardening, bonsai, and brewing beer. He was always an active community volunteer and enjoyed teaching courses.
Lawrence will be missed by all. The family will be holding a private memorial at a future time.
