Harold Fenske was born in Ebenezer, SK on February 19, 1930, during the harsh climate of the “dirty thirties”. He was the youngest in a family of five children born to Martha (nee Hoffman) and Frederick Fenske.

Harold grew to be a hunter, gardener, teacher, principal and director of education, working 25 years with the Yorkdale School Board in Yorkton. He married Eveline Galbraith in 1959 and together they raised three daughters and a son. Harold also had ten grandchildren that he adored, and for whom he wrote a book called “Riverlore” about his life at the headwaters of the Assiniboine River and our family history.

Harold built and enjoyed wilderness cabins with a couple of friends on the fringe of the Porcupine Forest in northeast Saskatchewan and always shared his love of history with anyone who had the good sense to stop and listen. He volunteered for various boards and organizations in his retirement and was one of the founders of the community garden named “Grow Regina”, gardening there even into his 90’s. Harold always had a kind and thoughtful approach to life and would share words of wisdom when asked. He passed away in palliative care on February 10, 2025.

Sharing in this loss and remembering him with love are: his children Carlisle Fenske (Glenn Smith), Sheryl Glasser (Andrew Glasser), Raelynn Douglas (Rick Larson) and Jaymes Fenske (Michelle Fenske/Edwards); grandchildren Ryan Tonita (Jess Gardiner), Ben and Erin Tonita (Gavin Forcade), Deanna and Amy Miller, Scott Glasser (Jenelle), Jennifer (Corey Sawchyn), Claire, Rachael, and John Douglas (Lily Campbell), Gray and Quinn Larson, Xavier and Alexander Edwards; great grandchildren Ellie and Harrison Glasser and Avery Sawchyn; as well as Harold’s brother, Herb Fenske (Lily Fenske), sister-in-law, Margaret Fenske, close family friend, Ronnie Eftodie, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. We say goodbye to Harold with a fond “auf Wiedersehen”. CUL8R
