Amy Gutmann is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science, School of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Communication, Annenberg School for Communication. 

She served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 2022-2024 (now ret.). She was the eighth and longest serving president of the University of Pennsylvania (2004-2022). 

First in her family to graduate college, Gutmann made affordable educational access a top priority, more than doubling the number of students from low-income and first-generation college families at Penn, the largest U.S. university offering all-grant financial aid that meets the full need of undergraduates.
