First woman to hold curator position at the Nieman Foundation. Already launched major initiatives to reconnect the foundation with the greater university and, at this critical time in its history, to summon the best minds to envision the future of American journalism. Previously, served as senior lecturer and vice president for civic engagement at the University of Chicago, and prior to that, she worked at the Chicago Tribune, as a reporter, investigations editor, metropolitan editor, managing editor, and ultimately, editor of the paper. With two other reporters, earned a Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism for stories on corruption in the Chicago City Council. In addition, during the nearly eight year term of her editorship of the Tribune, oversaw work that won the paper additional Pulitzers in a number of categories including international reporting, feature writing, editorial writing, investigative reporting, and explanatory journalism. Co-chaired the Pulitzer Prize board.
