Satz has published on a wide range of topics, including the ethical limits of markets rational choice theory, equality, education, democratic theory, feminist philosophy, and international justice. Her book, Why Some Things Should Not Be For Sale (2010), argues that some markets are noxious, and takes up debates over organ sales, prostitution, weapons, child labor, and addictive drugs. She argues that markets are not homogeneous, and not only allocate resources and incomes, but shape our culture, foster or thwart human development, and create and support structures of power. Her insights into these issues are also developed in articles on education, pollution and the environment, and global justice.
