Alison Richard Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Works in evolutionary developmental biology and theoretical evolutionary genetics. Theoretical studies of the evolution of canalization and genetic architecture and experimental work on the developmental genetics of vertebrate limb evolution provided insights into evolution of complex, integrated phenotypes. Offered experimentally supported hypothesis of transformation of digit identity in evolution of birds from dinosaurs. Served on editorial board of Evolution and Development; editor-in-chief of Journal of Experimental Zoology. Awarded MacArthur Fellowship (1992).
