He has enormous breadth in other areas such as performance monitoring, data compression, information retrieval, processor architecture, and compiler optimization. Dean also has applied his expertise to help create highly successful products using the vast processing, information storage, and machine learning systems he has pioneered - improving the quality of search, speech recognition, language translation, computer vision, and other areas. While Dean is a superb collaborator and has worked extensively with Sanjay Ghemawat and others, he is externally recognized for his individual contributions to his field.
