Leading researcher in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations, as well as public key cryptography. Among other work, she made a number of deep contributions to multi-parameter theory; in PDE she has pioneered methods for Lipschitz boundary problems. Her joint work in cryptography led to several patents and commercial applications. Her service includes a two-year term as president of the Association for Women in Mathematics. She was instrumental in the founding of the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) and served as its first director.
