Made contributions to understanding eukaryotic gene regulation, including establishing locus control regions (LCRs) and transcriptional elongation control as novel and fundamental paradigms in eukaryotic gene expression. Demonstrated that the organization of the eukaryotic nucleus is dynamic, with changes in subnuclear location of proteins and genes playing an important role in controlling gene expression.
