Research interests center on crime, deviance, and stigmatization; the life course; neighborhood effects; and the sociology of the modern city. Current work in the area of neighborhood effects and urban sociology focuses on race/ethnicity and social mechanisms of ecological inequality, the subjective meanings of disorder, spatial dynamics, the comparative network structure of community influence, and collective civic engagement.
