REGINA — The City of Regina will begin its annual cankerworm spray program the week of May 26, targeting areas with high insect counts and trees most vulnerable to damage.
More than 4,500 trees across the city are set to be treated with BTK, an organic pesticide approved by Health Canada. The product is effective against cankerworms but is safe for humans, pets and wildlife, the city said in a media release.
The trees selected for treatment were identified through assessments completed in fall 2024 and spring 2025. The city says the program helps protect Regina’s urban forest and ensures trees can be enjoyed for years to come.
Residents living in spray zones will receive hand-delivered notices at least 72 hours before spraying begins near their homes. If weather or other factors delay the operation, a new notice will be delivered with updated timing.
The city is asking residents to help prepare by closing windows and doors, keeping pets and family members away from spray crews, and moving vehicles off the street if possible.
For a map of spray zones or more information, residents can visit or call the city’s pesticide advisory line at 306-777-7777.
