The inquest into the death of Ryan Booker is in its final stages in Regina.

REGINA — Testimony has wrapped up in the coroner’s inquest into the 2022 shooting death of Ryan Booker near Moose Jaw.

The six-person jury heard the final witnesses on Wednesday morning at the inquest at the Royal Hotel in Regina.

The instructions to the jury got under way Wednesday afternoon from coroner Aaron Fox. Those have now wrapped up and the jury is now in deliberations.

The jury has been tasked with making determinations on five questions: the name of the deceased, when the individual died, the time of death, the place of death where the individual died, the medical cause of death and by what means the death occurred or the manner of death.

On this latter point, there are five possible jury findings: natural, accident, suicide, homicide or undetermined.

The inquest began Monday in Regina and focuses on events that transpired on July 17, 2022. On that date Booker was shot during an altercation with police, after a highway pursuit and a standoff that lasted six hours.

Testimony went on throughout this week with the jury hearing from family members on Monday, and on Tuesday from several police officers from Moose Jaw Police Service as well as the RCMP.
