REGINA — A Regina woman is celebrating a life-changing win after claiming a massive Vault Breaker jackpot in Saskatoon.
Kristin McElligott won $1,273,757.37 while playing the province-wide VLT game at Ricky’s All Day Grill on Idylwyld Drive on June 7, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) announced.
“I was at Ricky’s with two friends,” she explained while claiming her prize. “I called my friends over to watch me play and before I knew it, five symbols appeared!”
“I screamed and cheered so loud the entire bar heard!” she laughed. “A large group of people gathered to congratulate me and everyone was so happy!”
McElligott said she’s already thinking about how to put her winnings to use.
“This money will help so much,” she said. “I’d like to buy a car, invest and pay off my student loans.”
She also has big dreams for the future.
“I’ve always wanted to travel and buy a home one day,” she smiled. “This will help!”
Vault Breaker is a wide-area progressive VLT game linking 4,200 machines in more than 560 locations across nearly 270 Saskatchewan communities. The grand jackpot starts at $500,000 and pays out before reaching $1.5 million.
Since launching in June 2017, the province-wide jackpot has awarded over $51.9 million to 52 winners. The grand jackpot has now been reset to $500,000.
WCLC manages VLT gaming on behalf of Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS), the Crown corporation overseeing the province’s gaming programs.
