Two arrested following Regina police chase of stolen vehicle

During the arrest, a police dog bit a woman on her foot, causing minor injuries.

REGINA – A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle resulted in the arrest of two suspects Thursday morning after a coordinated effort by Regina Police Service Units.

The incident started just after midnight on June 19 when an officer patrolling near Lewvan Drive and Dewdney Avenue spotted a stolen vehicle being driven erratically. The Serial Support Unit was called in and tracked the vehicle as it. Fled south on Highway 6 before turning onto gravel roads and eventually heading back toward the city.

Police successfully used a tire deflation device, slowing the vehicle to about 40 km/hr as it entered a residential area. The chase ended when the suspect driver crashed into a tree in the 3100 block of Grant Road.

Both occupants fled on foot but ASU guided ground units to their locations.

A Police Service Dog located Carolynn Sanguais, 25, hiding in a nearby backyard. During her arrest, the dog bit her foot, causing minor injuries. She was treated in hospital before being taken into custody.

The other suspect, Mathew Kostiuk, 36, was tracked running. Through yards before climbing onto a roof on Daffodil Crescent. Officers negotiated his surrender, and he was arrested without further incident.

Kostiuk faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime Over $5,000, dangerous driving, and filing to comply with a probation order. He appeared in Regina court on June 19.

Carolynn Sanguais is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and fail to comply with a probation order.
