Bringing together a kaleidoscope of cultures, ages and communities

Saskatoon Eid Carnival draws thousands to Rotary Park in a spirited celebration of Eid al-Adha.

SASKATOON — A gentle summer breeze, the sound of laughter, the smell of sizzling delicacies from around the world — this was the scene on Sunday, June 8, as thousands of people from every corner of Saskatoon came together for the Eid al-Adha Carnival at Rotary Park.

Organized by the Saskatoon Dawah Center, Prairie Muslim Association and Jamia Riyadul Jannah, the event brought together a kaleidoscope of cultures, ages and communities in one shared celebration of unity, faith, and festive joy, organizers say.

With children squealing on rides, families browsing a bazaar, and neighbours bonding over biryani, the park was transformed into a living mosaic of Saskatoon’s diversity and togetherness. It was more than a festival; it was a powerful expression of what it means to belong, the organizers report.

“This wasn’t just about celebrating Eid,” said one of the organizers. “It was about creating a space where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and the spirit of Saskatoon shines bright through connection and compassion.”

Among the many highlights of the day was a special appearance by Mayor Cynthia Block, who joined the community in celebration and shared reflections that struck a chord with the crowd.

“This is an opportunity for families — not only from the Islamic community, but from across the city — to come together, enjoy a beautiful afternoon, and truly see each other,” Block shared.

“When we gather like this, we don’t see differences, we see the things that unite us. We love our children, we love our families, we love to eat great food, and we love to laugh together.”

She added, “This carnival is a living example of how we shape our city — not just with bricks and roads, but with connection, culture, and compassion. Your efforts today are helping create a Saskatoon where everyone belongs.”

Also in attendance was MLA Noor Burki (Regina Coronation Park), along with a wide range of community leaders and volunteers who helped weave the event into a day to remember.

Plans are already in motion for future gatherings.
