Police seize shotgun, machete in standoff at Saskatoon home

A Saskatoon man is facing firearms charges after police surrounded a home on Avenue R Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV following reports of a weapon being pointed.

SASKATOON — A 27-year-old man is facing multiple firearms charges after a tense police response at a home in the 400 block of Avenue R Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV Wednesday evening.

Just before 6 p.m. on June 11, Saskatoon police were dispatched to a report of a man pointing a firearm at people from inside a residence. Officers at the scene called in the Tactical Support Unit and deployed the Armoured Rescue Vehicle due to the reported threat.

Five individuals inside the home initially refused to leave but later exited around 6:30 p.m. and were taken into custody. A sixth person attempting to flee through a rear window was quickly arrested.

Police seized a shotgun from the yard and a machete from inside the home. One person who told officers they had recently used fentanyl was transported to hospital for assessment before being returned to detention.

The 27-year-old accused is charged with handling a firearm in a careless manner, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
