MANOR — Agriculture in the Classroom is a non-profit, Saskatchewan-based organization that offers presentations which involve hands-on activities, engaging programs and inquiry-based education resources.

This year, March was the designated month for Agriculture in the Classroom. Many schools participated and that resulted in some schools, including Manor School, having to wait until April for the program to come to them.

Paige Freitag from Saskatchewan Crop Insurance was this year’s presenter at the school. She met with 32 students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 6. The meeting took place in Roxann Waelchli’s classroom.

The students listened as Freitag showed and spoke about the variety of crops that are grown in the province and how that factors into Saskatchewan’s trading with other countries. To help the children picture the concept of importing/exporting, they played a game of Bingo that showcased products rather than the traditional numbers you’d normally find on a Bingo card.

Waelchli felt that the presentation was very helpful to the students in gaining a greater understanding of the vital role that agriculture plays in Saskatchewan’s economy.
