ESTEVAN - Canada Post is asking dog owners in Estevan to help keep its delivery employees safe.

"Every day, our employees deliver to approximately 4,600 households in Estevan," Canada Post said in a news release. "Many of these households have dogs and our delivery agents encounter them every day while delivering mail and parcels. Our top priority is the safety of our employees, which includes safe access to mailboxes and the front door."

The company said it is proud to deliver customers’ packages and mail, and it needs to ensure employees can do it safely.

"This is our number 1 priority and responsibility as an employer to every employee," Canada Post said.

The press release goes on to say employees understand dogs can sometimes be protective of their homes and families, and employees do not know what dogs will do.

Employees ask residents to be careful when they answer the door, so the dog does not slip out; keep the dog inside, in a fenced yard or tied up far from the front door or mailbox; keep front doors and fence gates closed; and keep dogs away from the screen door, even if it is locked.
