ESTEVAN — After 2 1/2 years of planning, advocacy and commitment, the Pebbles to Rocks Childcare Centre has announced the official ground breaking for its new facility.
The event will happen June 30 at 9 a.m. at the centre's location at 1505 Wellock Road.
In a press release issued by the City of Estevan on June 24, it was noted that following an extensive search of available buildings in and around the city, it was determined that none were suitable to meet the needs of a licensed childcare centre. This led to the decision to construct a brand-new facility designed specifically for early learning and care, marking what the press release says is a significant milestone for the community.
The project has received financial support, including $1,337,294 in grant funding from the Ministry of Education, as well as $200,000 total from the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Saskatchewan Economic Partnership (SSEP) and the City of Estevan through the Municipal Coal Transition Assistance Program. In addition, donations of $15,000 each from Kingston Midstream and Tundra Oilfield have helped move the project forward.
Executive director Karolina Tamulaitiene expressed her gratitude to the board of directors for their trust and commitment.
"I am incredibly thankful to our board for believing in this vision and working alongside me to make it a reality," she said.
Tamulaitiene also acknowledged the support of the City of Estevan, former Mayor Roy Ludwig and current city manager Jeff Ward, who she said were instrumental in working with Pebbles to Rocks to secure the land for the build. Leading the construction is Cody Hopson of CCR Construction, whose "professionalism and knowledge have been a valuable asset to the project", the press release said.
The June 30 ground breaking ceremony will mark not just the start of construction, but the realization of a vision that will provide high-quality childcare and support for families throughout the region for years to come, the press release said.
