ESTEVAN — A popular tradition at the Estevan Comprehensive School made its return.

The Improv Games, which show the sense of humour and quick-thinking ability of students and staff, was held May 14 at the school's cafetorium after a six-year absence.

Teachers Adrienne Dechief and Jillian Connely said the games originated in 1994 and the two teachers were very excited to have them return to ECS.

"The games are an excellent opportunity for students to work together, think quickly, and have fun," said Dechief. "They are special in ECS history as they attract a variety of students from across the school, not only students in drama, and [have] an even bigger reach in audience."

Thirty people were divided into six teams. Five squads were comprised of students and the other had teachers. The teams completed two improvisation challenges over the course of an hour with very little time to plan. They created a short skit and then showcased the "World's Worst", with ideas taken from students.

Evaluating each team were three judges: teachers Stacy Dutka and Kyle Whitehead from ECS, as well as city Coun. Tom Mauss.

The Bakers, consisting of Lucas Schott, Kegan Littlefield, Moksh Rabari and Khizir Syed, were the winning team.

The judges also picked an MVP for each team: Littlefield, Charli Sharko (Wing It Warriors), Ethan Court (You Guys), Jasmine Gal (SRC Winging Wonders), Noah Stepp (SRC Stage Slayers) and ECS principal James Jones (Teachers).

Also awarded was the most memorable line to Blake Andrist, who quipped "That sounds like an ish-you, not an ish-me" as the world's worst therapist.

Dechief and Connely said they are looking forward to growing the Improv Games in future years, exploring different challenges, spreading it over two lunch periods, and of course, bringing back the tradition of bribing the judges.
