ESTEVAN — The man charged in connection with an Estevan homicide last month had his matter back in Estevan Provincial Court on June 9.
Evan Isbister is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Todd Isbister. The matter was adjourned to June 16, also in Estevan, when Isbister will appear by video.
Isbister's attorney, Aleida Oberholzer, said she wanted to see a conditional interim release report prepared.
Oberholzer said she would be seeking GPS electronic monitoring if Isbister were to be released on bail.
Background: In a news release, the Estevan Police Service said it was investigating a sudden death that had been deemed a homicide.
The EPS says that at approximately 8:46 p.m. on May 10, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400-block of First Street. The caller reported an assault was taking place.
When the EPS arrived, they said officers located three men in the residence. The EPS said two were arrested without incident and transported to the police station. Estevan EMS responded to the scene to care for the victim, Todd Isbister, and transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment. He died from his injuries a short time later.
According to the EPS, one of the arrested men was cleared of any wrongdoing and was subsequently released from custody. The other man arrested was Evan Isbister.
The victim and accused were known to each other.
Detectives with the EPS Criminal Investigations Division were assigned to lead the investigation and have been supported by the EPS Forensic Identification Unit.
