ESTEVAN — A vehicle fire south of Estevan was part of a busy day May 21 for members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service.

Early that morning, crews were called to an unknown fire south of the city. Firefighters responded and found the vehicle fire was occurring.

"Crews quickly extinguished the fire without incident," said Fire Chief Rick Davies. "No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation."

A few hours later, they were called to a commercial fire alarm in northwest Estevan. Members responded and determined an emergency was not occurring. Davies said the alarm was due to a cooking incident.

Then in the evening, they were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in northeast Estevan. Again, no emergency was occurring, and Davies said it was due to cleaning at that location.

Meanwhile, firefighters were called to a two-vehicle collision in central Estevan on May 20. Crews responded, and determined the incident was fairly minor and their assistance was not required.

On May 22, firefighters were called to a dispatch to a residential fire alarm in southeast Estevan. No emergency was occurring, as the alarm was due to a cooking incident.

Two days later, they were dispatched to a commercial fire call in south Estevan. They were updated it was a false alarm and their assistance was not required, as it was due to an issue with the system.

Also on May 24, they were called to a grass fire south of Estevan. Members responded and extinguished it without incident.

"The cause is believed to be a controlled burn that spread," said Davies. "There was no reported damage or injuries from that incident," said Davies.

He admits he was surprised to see a call iike that due to the moisture the southeast received earlier this month, but he pointed out it wasn't a wildfire that was out of control.
