Midale (cpd) - Midale Central School is looking to change the mascot and the name of the mascot. They will be holding a contest to see who comes up with the best new mascot and name for their school. Please hand in entries to the school office. Their current name is the Midale Marauders.

The Midale Mustangs started up playing after their Christmas break with a home game against the Oxbow Huskies on Jan. 5 losing 5-2. They hosted Carnduff on Jan. 6 and won 10-2, and won 5-4 in a shootout over Arcola and Kisbey Combines on Jan. 9. The Mustangs hosted the Oxbow Huskies on Jan. 12, winning 3-0, and won against Redvers 5-3.

The Mustangs hosted the Arcola and Kisbey Combines on Jan. 18, played in Carlyle on Jan. 20 and then played in Carnduff on Jan. 22. Updates on scores will be published next week.

The Novice Storm hosted a home tournament in Midale on Jan. 19, playing against the Estevan Stars, Estevan Dayman Trucking Sabres, Estevan Canucks, Weyburn Whalers and Crosby Comets.

Free public skating will be held on Friday, Jan. 25 from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 26 from 2-4 p.m.

Skating is booked for physical education classes in January. Children are required to have warm clothing, skates and a hockey helmet. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated to help tie skates and to skate with the students.

There is a wide range of skill levels and with more volunteers they may all be successful at skating. They will be skating again on Jan. 29 and 31 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Reminder to parents to please ensure your children have weather appropriate clothing at all times. There have been many kids coming to school without the proper attire to be outside playing at recess.

The main front doors at the school will not be open until 8:30 a.m. at the school so if the students need in sooner, they must make arrangements with the teachers.

Final exams for Grades 10-12 students will be from Jan. 28 to 31. High school curling will be at 3:30 p.m. at the curling rink on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Please remember to bring stretchy pants and clean shoes.

Adult volleyball will run every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. until Feb. 12. Admission is $2 per evening.

There will be school on Friday, May 31, and no school on Friday, June 7.
The Science Fair is coming up soon on March 21 in Carnduff. The Grade 7 and 8 students are working on ideas for their projects. For these two classes, there will be a mini-Science Fair in the afternoon of January 31.

The students will display their projects for other students and the community to come view. The other classes that are taking part in the Science Fair are the Grade 9 and 10 students. They will be completing their Science Fair projects when they start science class in the second semester. More information will come at a later date.

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church will offer Sunday School, which started for the year on Jan. 13. This program is every Sunday at 11 a.m. for children ages three to 12 years.

The Midale Public Library, with a grant from the Community Initiatives Fund, will be having Zumba classes Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. The class will be held upstairs in the Midale Civic Centre. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

The Midale Oilmen's Association will host their 25th annual Curling Bonspiel on Feb. 21 to 23. The event includes a supper on the Friday evening, Dutch auction and dance. The playoffs will be held Saturday. Cost to enter is $240 per team.

The dance during the event is open to all aged 19 and older. No minors allowed this year. To enter a team, please call Catrina Moldenhauer or text Darren Moldenhauer. For more information or to join the committee, talk to any of the members.

Long-time Midale and Halbrite resident Herb Allen Gordon passed away on Jan. 12. He leaves behind his wife Helene Gordon of Midale, son Tom Gordon, Weyburn and his granddaughters, Tylere and Rhian. Herb's service of remembrance was held on Jan. 17 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Weyburn. He was laid to rest in Halbrite Cemetery with his children who predeceased him, Sandra, Peggy and Tim.
