Police charge a number of impaired drivers

During the reporting period, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 185 calls for service. Police responded to several alarm calls at both residential properties as well as businesses. There were also several reports of vandalism done to vehicles, particularly mirrors on parked vehicles.

*On September 22, an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Upon a roadside stop, the adult male driver was found to be impaired. The individual was subsequently charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding .08 and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He will be making his first court appearance next month.

*Police assistance was requested at a private residence with a small fire outside of entrance to the home.

*Police attended a local business whose window had been broken. The matter is currently under police investigation.

*Patrolling officers found two men having a disagreement. Police were able to separate the two parties and assist them in getting home.

*On September 21, police attended to a collision involving a single vehicle and a light standard. The driver of the vehicle was found to be impaired and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

*Police received a report of a local man who had gone missing from his home in Weyburn. During the police investigation, the man was located, determined to be safe and the family was informed of his whereabouts.

*A young male attended Weyburn Police Service to make a complaint of an assault that had occurred outside his place of employment. The incident remains under investigation.

*Police were asked to attend a local place of business in response to a report of an intoxicated male disturbing other patrons. An adult male was taken into police custody, lodged in cells and charged with being drunk in public.

*On September 19, a truck was reported to be stolen. The truck was parked on the street in front of the registered owner's home. The truck was later located at another location with no damage. The public is reminded to protect their property by ensuring doors are locked when the vehicle is unattended.

*A local business reported two males had attended their business selling what was believed to be stolen property, this matter remains under investigation.

*Police attended to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 39 and Government Road. The driver was charged with failing to yield when making a left turn and the other vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

*Assistance was requested by Weyburn Police Service in locating a minor who had left her guardians residence, the youth was later located and safely returned home.

*On September 15, police received a complaint of a vehicle parked with two individuals in it that appeared to be sleeping. Officers attended and found one of the individuals has had a warrant with the Weyburn Police Service and was a suspended driver. After dealing with the outstanding warrant, a ticket was issued for driving while disqualified.

*On September 14, an adult male was lodged in cells for being in breach of condition. He was released the following morning with a court date. He was also issued a ticket for being drunk in public.

*An employee from a local business made a report of an unattended vehicle parked in front of the building that had the front window damaged. The registered owner of that vehicle later attended the office to provide a statement. There are no suspects at this time and the incident remains under investigation.

*Police attended a motor vehicle accident where a truck had collided with a power pole in a parking lot of a downtown business.

*Police attended a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Government Road and Souris Avenue. One of the vehicles needed to be towed away from the scene and the driver of that vehicle was later issued a ticket for disobeying a red light.

*A report was made of fireworks being set off within city limits. Police attended and $150 ticket was issued under the city bylaw.

*On September 13, a motorist was observed by police to be swerving all over the road. The driver of vehicle was later charged with impaired operation of vehicle. The vehicle was also towed to a local compound.

*A local business owner reported that an employee's credit card had been stolen by a fellow employee. An officer spoke with the suspect and was able to retrieve the credit card from the suspect as well as the money owed.

*A member of the Weyburn Police Service was given information regarding individuals who were believed to be smoking marijuana in a public place. Police attended and the matter was mediated informally as there was insufficient evidence to proceed with charges.

*On September 12, police assistance was requested at a local school to help remove a youth who had been asked to leave and would not cooperate. The male youth left the premises without incident after police arrived.
