Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of June 24 to July 1:
During the reporting period, police received 144 calls for service. Police attended numerous false alarms during the week and began investigating several reports of minor thefts, disturbances, vehicle and property damages. Property owners with alarms are asked to make sure they are working properly to avoid false calls. Police would also like to remind the public that it is illegal to set off fireworks within the city limits. Fines start at $150.
*Police have received complaints about camper trailers and boats parked on city streets. Police would like to remind the public that any trailer parked on the street must be attached to a motor vehicle and it must be moved every 48 hours.
*On July 1, police were called to a disturbance in the 300 block of Railway Avenue. A male was asked to leave the business, but he then kept interfering with the patrons. He was arrested and charged with obstruction. While dealing with this complaint, another male started tampering with a police vehicle. He was arrested and charged with mischief. Both accused will be making court appearances later this month.
*On June 30, police received a call from a home in the 200 block of Mergens Street stating a strange male had entered the home and was on the couch. Police located the male walking in the area. The subject had been at a concert in the area earlier in the evening and had too much to drink. Police escorted the individual home.
*Police arrested a very drunk and disorderly person on Railway Avenue at 3:00 a.m. on June 30. He was placed in cells until he was sober the next morning.
*A male was found passed out near a dumpster on Government Road and was given a ride to his residence.
*Police are investigating a broken window at a business on Third Street North.
*A business in the 10 block of Government Road contacted police regarding property damages done during the night of June 29. An ongoing investigation has found several vehicles damaged by persons walking over them.
*Police received a complaint of a dog harassing animals in the former Souris Valley grounds. Police located a dog barking at the animals in the Therapeutic Park. With the assistance of the Humane Society, the dog was captured and taken to the shelter.
*Police are investigating a theft from June 30, when a female contacted police about her wallet having been taken from her hotel room. The investigation is ongoing.
*On June 29, a home owner in the 100 block of Clarke Avenue contacted police regarding her mail being tampered with that day. The complainant came home and found her mail strewn across her front yard. The investigation is ongoing.
*Police received a complaint of a dog in a vehicle at a business on Sims Avenue. Police located the owner and warned her of her actions.
*Police received a complaint of three youths throwing rocks in the area of the fairgrounds. Police located the youths and warned them about their actions.
*Police received a complaint of a person abusing his dog in the 100 block of Laing Crescent. Police located the accused and arrested him for being drunk in public. The animal abuse complaint is still under investigation.
*On June 28, police investigated a complaint of a vehicle traveling into Weyburn that had almost caused a head-on collision. A 20-year-old male from Estevan had pulled out to pass a semi while he had a solid traffic line, forcing oncoming traffic to stop to avoid a head on collision. He then passed the oncoming traffic on the shoulder. He has been charged with dangerous driving under the criminal code and will be making a court appearance later this month.
*Police received a call of a man bleeding in the area of Seventh Street and Railway Avenue. Investigation revealed that he had been riding his bike and carrying a bag with a can of paint when he lost control and wiped out, hitting his head on the pavement. He was treated by ambulance personnel and went home with his family who were at the scene.
*Police attended to an accident at the intersection of Coteau Avenue East and Government Road. A truck traveling North on Government Road was signalling to turn right onto Coteau Avenue while a motorcycle being driven by a 44-year-old male behind the truck pulled to the left to go around the truck. A 37-year-old woman driving an SUV attempted to turn south from Coteau Avenue onto Government Road and struck the motorcycle. The motorcycle driver was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
*On June 27, police were called to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Coteau Avenue and 18th Street. Both vehicles had to be towed from scene but neither driver was injured. One driver was charged with leaving a stop sign before it was safe.
*Police received a complaint of a dog continually barking in the 100 block of Seventh Street and the owner of the dog given a warning.
*A female victim attended the police station to report that she had been the victim of domestic abuse. The investigation resulted in her male partner being charged with assault and he will appear in court this month.
*Police found a 45-year-old male from Yellow Grass performing an indecent act while in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of First Street. He was arrested, is now facing several charges and will be appearing in court later in July. He was released on several conditions.
*On June 26, a complaint was received of noises sounding like gunshots in the former Souris Valley grounds. Police were unable to locate the source of the noise.
*Police are investigating a case of a dog attacking another dog, with the injured dog requiring veterinarian attention. Police are still looking for the suspect dog and its owner. The dog is described as a shepherd mix and black and brown in color. The owner was a heavier set male in his fifties. Dog owners are reminded that when they are walking their dogs, they must be on a leash.
*Employees from a business on Sims Avenue reported a truck that had damaged the building because it was too big for the drive-thru. The employees were unable to get a license plate, but the vehicle was described as a regular cab red truck with a large metal rack in the back.
*Police are investigating the theft of two bicycles from the Weyburn Leisure Centre.
*On June 25 police conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of Government Road at approximately midnight. Three youths in the vehicle were found to be in possession of marijuana. The youths were arrested and released into the custody of their parents.
*Police received a complaint of stolen property. Someone entered a yard on Water Street and stole a bicycle. The bike is black in color, mountain style and is built for an adult male. The bike has not been located.
*Police attended a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Tenth Street and Coteau Avenue, when a city dump truck was struck by a private vehicle. There were no injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
*Police received a complaint about a vehicle that had lost large pails of paint at the intersections of Railway Avenue at Third Street and Government Road at Highway #39. The investigation revealed that the pails of paint had fallen from the truck of a construction company from Regina that had been making deliveries in town. City Works was contacted to clean up the spills and charges are pending.
*Police are investigating a report of someone having gone through a vehicle that had been parked on Elizabeth Street in the early hours. At this time, there are no suspects but the investigation is ongoing.
*A van in the 100 block of Ash Drive was broken into during the early morning hours of June 25th. Some of the property taken from the vehicle was located in a nearby yard. The investigation is ongoing.
